Sooo Tired

Oy . . . will I ever finish that post I keep talking about? Now I feel bad for mentioning it. I really thought I'd have it done and up the very next day when I first mentioned it, and now look at me. I'm such a blog tease. You're all going to start smacking me around at some point. Or maybe you'll come by and spray "BLOG TEASE" on my house in whipped cream.

Today has been a very mentally exhausting day. Husband and I were trying to go over finances and work plans and possible pre-school plans for the boy this morning and I feel like I am just faced with so many important choices over the next several months, and I just can't seem to figure out which choices make the most sense. I feel so immature in the face of so much of my life lately.

When do people actually start feeling like competent, responsible adults? I am beginning to think the answer must be: never. All those people who acted like competent, responsible adults in front of me when I was a child were just putting on a big show to make it seem like they had everything under control, when in reality they were just confused and overwhelmed by life on a regular basis. If I am lucky enough to live to be 100, in my mind, if it still functions at that point at all, I will probably still be about 16.

Then also today we had to deal with an emergency "fix my computer" call from my sister. One of the benefits/hazards of being married to a computer genius is that everyone you know is always calling your husband to come perform CPR on their broken machines. I was actually glad to visit her as I don't see her very often. But the woman has no concept of childproofing. None whatsoever. She and her boyfriend are anthropology students. Who, in their early 20s, have already managed to travel most of the western hemisphere. And filled their house with all sorts of unique art and artifacts from their travels.

Many of which they keep at the eye-level of a child.

So, it was mostly a night of me running around behind an over-stimulated just-back-from-vacation two-year-old, hissing:

"Sharp!"
"Fragile!"
"Expensive!"
"Hot!"
"Look with your EYES, not with your HANDS."
"DON'T %*#$*&% #*@#& TOUCH THAT!"

And now, I just want to sleep . . .

Sounds like you need a serious drink! And of course, a nap!

I am glad I am not the only one feeling as though she is a faking the whole adult thing.

My mom has a friend that we go for family gatherings and her house is all about decorations that are to look at only and not touch. The odd thing is that she is a grandma and watches 2 of her grandkids during the day and if she has toys for them to play with she must tell me how she hides them.

Yes, I'm thinking the adult schmear is just a conspiracy that our parents perpetuate because one day they want grandchildren. So they make it look not so hard. Then when we get to that life stage, we're all, "Sure! Bring on the babies and the messes and the adulthood. Who needs a social life and a full night's sleep? Not I," said the uninformed parent-wannabe.

It's a good darn thing our kids are so cute. Now I'm off to yell at Gabe to not $%(*@#$*@#$@ touch that!

Peter, I am continually amazed at your ability to travel as much as you do with a child the same age as mine. I think I would go completely out of my gourd by the time I reached the third hotel room that had no childproof outlet covers, let alone a safari cottage with no lock on the front door.

(My child would probably have been lion food the first night in that cottage. I can just hear him now:

*Click* goes the door, softly.

"Heeeere, kitty, kitty. . .")

Ok...this is an easy one....(since I have raised one alot like yours) With A's prior permission of course...take said object in your hands gently...allowing Issac to touch and feel it...explaining to him WHAT it is and WHY he can't hold it or WHY it is dangerous. You will have to go through the artifacts several times and do this for him several times until the mystery of these things is gone. He's an intelligent boy...he'll get it

Boy, WonderMum. Do you think Jaelithe doesn't know how to deal with her own child? I'm sorry to sound like such a bitch, but Jaelithe has seemed quite capable to me both on her blog and in person of making sure Isaac doesn't go rip tearing through a friend's delicate house.

You know what bloggers call such unsolicited (and condescending) advise? Assvice.

Not at ALL! I would never suppose that J didn't already know this...BUT...remember...I have a son with the same disorder...and I needed to be reminded from time to time to do such things...so I merely thought that if I needed to be reminded...so might she...*shrugs* That's all
